Week 5 - Project Testing

Writer's picture: Anna Lisa VegterAnna Lisa Vegter

I was away sick for this class, but I did get a chance to watch the recording for the session. Caroline, Maya, and Ria all got into motion capture suits and were marked up and calibrated accordingly by doing the set range of motions. They all got to choose different characters and the scene was conference room, that was set up in UE5.

The challenge of this session was that real props were added to the scene and had to be marked up like the actors, to be able to interact and be tracked in the space. Caroline had the opportunity to use/interact with a swivel chair, making it move physically and in doing so, it also animates in the UE5 scene. Some of the issues were the markers coming off the props and the scale of the virtual chair was not the same as the physical chair.

Tape had to be added to the floor to show were the edge of the chairs could be pushed into to, without going top far into the virtual table.

Some behind the scenes photos are below:

The scene in UE5 with the 3D characters, then panning to the mo-cap actors that are driving these characters and interacting with marked props

Combining motion capture with nDisplay: using a live action actor to interact with the mocap actor that is driving a 3D model. This is then recorded physically in the space, while projecting the virtual scene in the background. All this is happening live in real time.
